In general, OEM tuning utilities get a bad rap, but Ryzen Master is definitely worth a look for anyone who owns a Ryzen CPU. This can be useful in situations where you want to run more graphically intensive apps that don’t need as much CPU TDP, which means you can shift some of the cooling and power headroom to the GPU side of things. While you can’t use Ryzen Master to overclock your discrete AMD GPU, you can push your integrated GPU (if you have one) to perform better. It means you can do certain types of work with little or not fan noise or absolutely put the pedal to the metal when needed. For instance, you will know if your CPU has reached its power limit. These CPU statistics will help you overclock. The Temperature, Speed, Power, and Current readings are at the top. You may have one profile for playing video games, one for crunching numbers overnight and another for working in apps like AutoCAD or Premiere. When you open Ryzen Master for the first time, the Home tab should look like this: This tab shows you the current settings of the CPU and memory. Multi-Profile SupportĪnother neat feature is support for up to four profiles. Finely-grained tuning is only really worth it if the time required is justified by your workload and the small additional performance you can eke out. Honestly, even for us the basic mode is good enough to get the lion’s share of stable performance increase. In fact, you can actually overclock and tweak your DRAM from within the application as well. If you open up the advanced mode, you can really get granular info about your CPU’s settings and status. Ryzen Master is also notable for having built-in testing and validation as well, so you can be confident that a specific overclock isn’t going to cause system instability or heat problems. There’s also an Auto OC option that lets the software figure out what your specific CPU can do with the power and cooling it has. In basic mode you can adjust the two most important metrics: voltage and clock speed. Which makes it easy to do fast adjustments. The AMD Ryzen Master utility offers you the opportunity to take advantage of the overclocking margin and adjust certain parameters to enhance computation speed. We like Ryzen Master because it has both a very simple basic mode and an advanced mode. All desktop Ryzen CPUs have unlocked multipliers and this official utility from AMD lets you both see exactly what’s going in with your CPU and then tune its performance to get the most out of it. AMD Ryzen Master provides for up to four profiles to store custom clocks and voltage adjustments for both the Ryzen CPU and DDR4 memory. Both Intel and AMD actually have their own official overclocking utilities and even provide sophisticated automation to make finding the highest stable clock easier.įor owners of a Ryzen CPU, that’s where AMD’s Ryzen Master utility comes into the picture. Not only do modern CPUs overclock themselves according to available power and cooling, most desktop CPUs have unlocked multipliers. Today things could not be more different. It got so bad, that chip makers started putting blocks in place to thwart overclockers. Not only would it toast your warranty, it represented a way for users to buy a cheaper CPU and get the same performance of a much more expensive model for free. Note: We strongly recommend not using Game Mode because it actually prevents your CPU from using more than 8 cores if it has more than 8.There was a time when CPU makers frowned heavily on the practice of CPU overclocking. When manually overclocking, it is a best practice to overclock in small increments and then test for stability after each adjustment. Profiles allow you to configure different settings for different applications. The AMD Ryzen Master Utility User Guide provides information on overclocking and instruction on how to use the utility. The only ones we care about right now are Profile 1 and Profile 2. These tabs address different overclocking scenarios: On the sidebar, you should see more tabs below Home. To start customizing, you'll need to step away from the Home tab. Further down, you can see all the user-customizable settings related to CPU and memory overclocking. AMD had marketed them as having up to a 4.6GHz boost clock, but failed to mention that this only applied to single core boosts. It allows users to adjust the processor frequency. It will also show you the cores with the most potential for overclocking in various shades of green. AMD Ryzen Master is a free software application designed to customize the performance of AMD Ryzen processors. Here Ryzen Master shows you every single-core and their clock speeds. Next is the Control Mode row, but we will come to it later.
